Find Me Sun is a free app for iOS and Android, made by VECO.TECH. It has no accounts and no ads. This page explains what information the app and this website (findmesun.io) handle, why, and who else is involved.

In short

  • You don't create an account, and we don't know who you are.
  • Your location is used to answer your search. We don't store it and we don't write it to our logs.
  • There is no advertising. The app collects anonymous usage statistics and error reports so we can improve it; they never include your location.
  • Your settings stay on your phone.

Your location

The app needs a starting point to find better weather within your travel distance. You choose how to give it:

  • Your device's location. The app asks for permission and reads your position only at the moment you start a search, while the app is open. It never reads it in the background.
  • A place you type in. You can refuse the location permission and enter a town instead.

When you search, the starting point is used in two ways:

  • It is sent to our server together with your search settings (distance, directions, temperature range, number of days, what matters most, and your language). The server compares stored weather forecasts and sends back the results. It does not store your starting point and does not log it.
  • The app asks the weather service Open-Meteo for the forecast at your starting point, so results can be compared with where you are. Before that request leaves your phone, the position is rounded to about 10 kilometres.

You can withdraw the location permission at any time in your phone's settings. The app keeps working with a place you enter.

What stays on your phone

Your settings (units, language), your search options and, if you entered one, your chosen place are saved on your phone so they are still there the next time. They are not sent to us for storage and disappear when you delete the app. Your device's position itself is never saved.

Technical data

Like every internet service, our server and the services below see the IP address a request comes from. We use it for one thing: limiting how many searches one address can make per hour, to protect the service against abuse. For that we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of the address, not the address itself, for at most two hours.

Who else is involved

  • Open-Meteo provides the weather forecasts and the place search. It receives the rounded position described above and, when you search for a place, the text you type. Open-Meteo keeps its own server logs, which can include these, for 90 days. See their terms and privacy information.
  • Supabase hosts our server and the stored weather forecasts.
  • PostHog (EU Cloud) receives anonymous usage statistics from the app, such as which options are used, so we can improve it. No session recording and no ad tracking.
  • Sentry receives app error reports so we can find and fix bugs.
  • Vercel hosts this website and provides its visitor statistics.
  • Apple and Google distribute the app through their stores, under their own privacy policies.
  • Your maps app. "Open in Maps" hands the destination to the maps app on your phone.

We do not sell or share data with anyone for advertising.

This website

This website has no accounts, no contact form and no cookies. If you email us, we use your message and address only to answer you.

We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to see how many people visit and how fast the pages load. They work without cookies, collect anonymous, aggregated data and are not used to identify you or to follow you across other sites.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Under European privacy law you can ask what personal data we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted. Because the app has no accounts and stores no location or search history, there is normally nothing we can link to you. You can still write to us with any question or request, and you can complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Changes

When the app changes in a way that affects this policy, this page is updated and the date at the top changes.
